ATP INDIAN WELLS – Djokovic plays better to beat Kohlschreiber, Nadal takes the revenge against Verdasco

It”s a better Novak Djokovic the one who beats Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-5 7-5 and qualifies for the fourth round in Indian Wells, tournament that the Serb won four times in career and where it”s defending champion. For Nole it”s the 18th match won this year on 19 played, the 13th in a row in California.

Than the shocking beginning against Fratangelo, today the Serb appears more focused and breaks Kohlschreiber to lead 4-1. The German breaks him back thanks to two beatiful backhand winners and it”s 4-all. Nole reacts like a champion does, playing a great game with Kohlschreiber on serve and wins the first set 7-5. In the second set he breaks Philipp in the fourth game, serves for the match, has three match in a row and resoundingly does not convert it, making an incredible smash unforced error. The German will save another match point, breaks his opponent but on 6-5, thanks to a wonderful forehand passing shot, Djokovic breaks him to win the match. He made 16 winners and 23 unforced errors, will face Feliciano Lopez in the fourth round. The Spaniard is the only player who was able to beat him this year.

Rafael Nadal takes the revenge against Fernando Verdasco qualifying, without enchanting, for the fourth round. Both sets were very different as the results suggests. Verdasco was very disastrous in the first set, where he put so many unforced errors and five double faults. It was the third time Nadal won a set 6-0 against Verdasco.

In the second set Verdasco there were four breaks in the first four games. The third game was very bad for Nadal, who made three double faults. After saving one break point, on 2-3 Verdasco hold. The Madrid Native was finally consistent on serve, even if he made winners and avoidable errors. In the tie-break Nadal made an unforced error and it allowed Verdasco to be up 3-2. Nando won other two points to go up 5-2. On 5-3 he made a return winner on a Nadal”s low second serve. The Spaniard saved all the three set points in a row with courage and two backhand winners. Verdasco will not convert in total five set points, Nadal took advantage of it and after a double fault by his opponent won the match, lasted 100 minutes.

For Rafa there is only the score as something positive and the fact to have won in straight sets. The stats confirm it: Nadal makes the same number of winners and unforced errors, while Verdasco made 38 unforced errors and eight double faults.

The Spaniard will have to play better against Alexander Zverev, who beat Gilles Simon 6-2 6-2. As for the other matches, Kei Nishikori beat Steve Johnson 7-6 7-6 and will face John Isner, who defeated Mannarino. In the other Spanish derby Feliciano Lopez wins the marathon with Bautista Agut winning 6-4 at the third set. Big win for Dominic Thiem against Jack Sock. The Austrian won 7-5 6-7(5) 6-1 and will play against Jo Wilfried Tsonga, who defeated Sam Querrey 6-3 6-4
