Maria Sharapova is still not able to return to compete. The World No. 7, after withdrawing from Brisbane at the beginning of the year and then Dubai and Doha, will not play Indian Wells too due to a left forearm injury.
“I am extremely disappointed that I am unable to compete in this year’s BNP Paribas Open” – said Sharapova. “I have been focused on healing my left forearm injury and tried to get my body to be 100% ready to play this event, as it is one of my favorite events on the WTA and so close to my home in LA. I know the tournament will be a great success this year and I will be anxious to return next year and hopefully many years after.”
This year Sharapova has played only Australian Open, where she reached the quarter-finals losing against Serena Williams. Last eight months have not been lucky for the Russian, who did not play from last July to September due to a leg injury. Then she suffered a forearm injury for one month. Masha, who reached fourth round last year in Indian Wells, could return in Miami or directly for the European clay-court season.
