If I had one super power it would be to fly like superman.
Wimbledon is my favorite Slam, because it has the most tradition and it is very pretty.
I have played many matches – many good ones, many bad ones. One of the best ones for sure in terms of my level was against Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals of the 2009 Australian Open (Verdasco lost in five sets in five hours and 14 minutes).
Important for me was the 2008 Davis Cup final in Argentina against Jose Acasuso. It was an unbelievable match, coming from two sets to one down and winning the Davis Cup for Spain. Maybe that was the most important victory.
One of my favorite songs right now are Hold My Hand by Michael Jackson ft. Akon.
I would love to have played with Andre Agassi or John McEnroe. They were my two idols – one when I was a teenager around 13 or 14 and the other when I was really young. It would have been my dream to play with both of them.
I have known Feliciano Lopez for many years and I have good relationships with Nadal, David Ferrer and Nicolas Almagro. I can go and have dinner with any of them.
I will go next week to play Davis Cup. I need to keep trying to get my best level for that tie also. I will just go there outside and try to play my best anyway. Doesn’t matter if I qualified or not.
Fight and try to, keep staying at the match, and try to do my best every point to still having chances to win. You know, is only thing I was doing.
I love to play soccer with friends whenever I have free time, usually in the pre season.
I have many favourite movies but Gladiator for sure is one of them.
To pick one favourite song is tough. I love music and I also have friends in music – Spanish singers like Enrique Iglesias and Alejandro Sanz. I know them personally and like their songs. I also like the music of Ne-Yo and Akon.
I like how tennis is traditionally and is just improving a few things like Hawk-Eye.
Davis Cup final made me much stronger mentally. And this preseason, I was working really hard. So today, I really believe in myself that I can win the match anyway, that I’m going to five sets. That’s so important, no, believe in yourself.
There are many things that they said about someone. At the end we know that all that is out there and we will fight like to change that. At the end there are many people in this world, and is impossible to control everyone.

Playing against someone like Rafa, you have to be extra-focused, and it was a very long match. At the end, physically, you really need to push yourself to the limit. It’s not easy to come back two days after and be the same, after almost five hours against him, the way he pushes you, the way you have to give everything you have to try to beat them.
The most important thing is to win matches. I’ve had injuries this year, now I want to stay healthy.
It’s not easy to wait a day to play. It wasn’t stressful, but hard. When it rains you have to be ready to play at every moment, especially if it is a final, not a first round.
I’m going to go out there and try to do my game like I did every match and like I try to do every match that I play.
I feel I play good. But I also play against very good players. You know, is not enough, no, to play good tennis to beat these guys. You need to play a good tennis and also play very good in the very important moments, no, and don’t make mistakes.
I don’t have a favorite place. New York is a great city, and there are many places to go. I like to go to Central Park, Soho, Fifth Avenue, Union Square. There are many places.
I’m here to try my best anyway and to enjoy. You know, anyway, if I don’t have chances to qualify, I will go out, I will even enjoy more because I know I don’t have nothing to lose.
I like to be with my friends, family, go to the cinema at times and, when I have time, just do regular things.
Being away from my family during Christmas was really hard for me. I have always been with them during the holidays. Over the years I didn’t play the first week of the year, because if I play these tournaments in Chennai or Adelaide, I cannot be with my family for Christmas and New Year’s.
My favourite team is Real Madrid and my favourite athlete… it’s tough. In tennis, Nadal. In football, Cristiano Ronaldo. But I also like athletes like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. My idol when I was a kid was Michael Jordan. I really like Fernando Alonso too.
My best moment was when Real Madrid won the Champions League in 1998 against Juventus with Predrag Mijatovic scoring the goal and also the final in 2002 against Bayer Leverkusen when Zinedine Zidane scored. It was unbelievable.
My favorite thing to do in Miami is to go jetskies, boating and fishing.
I have to say that I don’t go to many places away from the tour – I haven’t had the time to go the Maldives or places like that. I’ve been to the Bahamas which I really liked, as well as Hawaii.
I like watches, but I think Feliciano [Lopez] has more than me. I have a few, but I don’t have a collection or anything. I try to win matches. I love cars, sport cars, but to make a collection of sport cars is a little more expensive.
I like to work the upper body, shoulders, back. They are very important for tennis.
It is an honor to have the opportunity to work with all these unbelievable people (about his team).
They helped me physically and technically. They help me a lot.
