  • French mother, Évelyne is a teacher and his Congolese father, Didier Tsonga, is a former handball player and chemistry teacher.
  • Jo’s parents met each other and married in France. In the 1970s his father moved there to become a great handball player.
  • Unlike his elder sister, Sarah, who is not fond of sports, his cousin Maël Lépicier plays for Congo at the Belgian KSV Roeselare FC.
  • Enzo , younger brother, much like Jo, has been inspired to play sports and is part of the French junior basketball program.
  • Since late 2014 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is in a relationship with Noura El Shwekh, a Swiss. She constantly follows him on the ATP tour.
  • Formerly Tsonga was dating Charlotte Deon.

  • In 2007 Tsonga had the record year-end 169 ranking spots climb (from No.212 to No.43).
  • Became prominent as an unseeded player, who reached the 2008 Australian Open final having defeated 4 seeded players including world No. 2 Rafael Nadal in the semis.
  • The 2008 ATP Masters 1000 Paris final was watched by 1.3 million viewers, the 2nd highest audience on French TV Canal.
  • Voted 2008 Most Improved Player of the Year by his fellow players.
  • His foundation “Attrap’ La Balle”, received ATP Aces for Charity grant in 2011. It lays emphasis on poor children from Congo to get access to sports activities.
